Labioplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce or enlarge the folds of skin that usually surround your labia and vagina. Excess skin can become twisted and pinched, which can cause discomfort during exercise, physical activities and sexual intercourse.
Your vaginal lips are the folds of skin around your vaginal opening. There are two layers of skin folds. The outer folds are called labia majora, which means big lips. These are the larger folds that protect your external genitalia and are covered by pubic hair after puberty. The inner folds are called labia minora, which means small lips. These folds of skin protect your urethra (where urine leaves your body) and vagina.
During labiaplasty, depending on why the procedure is being done, your doctor may
Remove some tissue from the labia to reduce its size.
Inject filler or fat to enlarge the labia.
Create a labia from other tissues.
